Penalty Rates
Saturday & weekday nights (Bands 4–9)+30%
Enhancement on basic pay for Saturdays and weekday nights 20:00–06:00.
Sundays & public holidays (Bands 4–9)+60%
Enhancement on basic pay for Sundays and public holidays.
Unsocial hours (Bands 1–3)+37% to +100%
Band 1 attracts double time on Sun/PH; Bands 2–3 sit between the standard and Band-1 rates.
Overtime (Bands 1–7)150%
Time and a half for overtime above contracted hours; double time on public holidays.
Notes
- •NHS Scotland rates come from Scottish Government circular PCS(AFC)2025/5 — a confirmed two-year deal: +4.25% (2025/26) and +3.75% (2026/27).
- •From 1 April 2026 Scotland moved to a 36-hour standard week, so actual 2026/27 hourly rates are a little higher than the annual ÷ 37.5 hrs shown by the toggle.
- •Scotland uses a two-point structure from Band 8A upward. Lowest hourly rate £13.25 (Living Wage employer).
- •An inflation guarantee applies: if average CPI (Jan–Dec 2026) exceeds 2.75%, 2026/27 rates are topped up to 1 percentage point above CPI. All figures in GBP.
