Notes

  • •Rates are hourly (Appendix B1). Nursing positions are 37.5 hours a week, 1,950 hours a year (7.5-hour days or 12-hour shifts under the Modified Work Week), so annual = hourly × 1,950.
  • •Pay is by job-evaluated pay range, not by job title, with 8 steps. The ranges shown are the ones the Government of the Northwest Territories and the NWT Health and Social Services Authority advertise for each nursing job; check your offer letter for yours.
  • •New hires start on Step 1, or Step 2 to 4 with directly related experience, then move up one step a year on the first day of the month they were appointed (clauses 24.01 and 24.09).
  • •The last general increase in this agreement was 2.25% on 1 April 2025.
  • •The agreement expired on 31 March 2026 and stays in force while bargaining continues; mediation is set for January 2027. The 1 April 2025 rates are still paid and a settlement is likely to be back-paid.
  • •The Northern Allowance is a yearly amount by community, reset each 1 April by a formula in the agreement, so it can go down as well as up. The 2025/26 and 2026/27 amounts are from GNWT’s published table.
  • •Shift nurses get a holiday bank each 1 April of 7.5 hours for each holiday in the year, and unused hours carry over (Appendix A10 16.09).
  • •Hay River Health and Social Services Authority nurses are on a separate agreement until they move to this one on 1 April 2027.
