Notes

  • These figures are the annual base salary in Australian dollars under the WA Health System - Medical Practitioners - AMA Industrial Agreement 2024, which covers doctors employed in the WA public health system. The agreement provides three increases: 4.75% from 3 September 2024, 3.75% from 3 September 2025 and 3% from 3 September 2026 — the rates shown are the 3 September 2025 column.
  • The 3 September 2026 rates (a further 3% increase) are printed in the agreement for all classifications; only the Intern rate for that date is listed here.
  • Ordinary full-time hours are 38 per week. The agreement converts annual salary to an hourly rate as annual ÷ 52.1666 ÷ 38 (clause 12(6)); the weekly and hourly figures it publishes are arithmetic conversions of the annual salaries and are not listed separately.
  • Not every yearly step is listed: the Registrar scale runs to Year 7, Senior Registrar has further steps beyond Year 2, and the Consultant (Arrangement A) scale runs to Year 9 — intermediate steps sit between the figures shown.
  • Consultant rates shown are Arrangement A (Table 2); the agreement also contains a separate Arrangement B remuneration structure for senior practitioners, which is not listed here.
  • On-call is paid as an hourly availability allowance (shown under Allowances), and recall to work is paid at the penalty rates shown with a minimum of 3 hours per recall — or a minimum of 1 hour where the work is done remotely without returning to the workplace. On-call frequency is limited to one day in three except in emergencies, and on-call rosters must be posted at least 14 days in advance.
  • Roster protections: no split shifts, no night shifts immediately prior to approved leave, and rosters must be published 14 days in advance (21 where possible). Continuous duty is capped at 16 hours, followed by a minimum 8-hour break.
  • Annual leave is 5 weeks per year with a 17.5% loading. Allowance and on-call figures are the 3 September 2024 schedule rates; the professional development allowances step up in later years of the agreement.
