Recall is paid at overtime rates with a minimum 2-hour payment; travel time counts as time worked. Consultants also receive the hourly recall additions listed under Allowances.

Casual doctors receive a 25% loading in lieu of annual leave, sick leave and public holidays not worked.

Public Holiday — casual150% + 25% loading

Casuals are paid 150% of the hourly rate plus the 25% casual loading for all public-holiday hours worked.

Notes

  • These figures are the annual base salary in Australian dollars at the 14 April 2026 increment, taken from Schedule 1 of the agreement (the General Public Sector salary-sacrifice scheme); Schedule 2 lists parallel rates for doctors on the alternative salary-sacrifice arrangement.
  • The agreement delivers a 13% wage rise over its term: 3.5% from 14 April 2025, then 3.25% from 14 April 2026, 3.25% from 14 April 2027 and 3% from 14 April 2028. Only the 14 April 2026 rates — the column in force now — are shown here.
  • Ordinary full-time hours are 38 per week. The agreement also publishes weekly and hourly equivalents derived from the annual salary; only the annual figures are shown here.
  • Intern through Registrar classifications sit on the Medical Practitioner salary scale (Steps 1-8), and a PGY4 Senior Resident Medical Officer remains on the Step 3 rate. The Consultant scale runs nine steps: the first (Consultant Step 1) and last (Senior Consultant Step 9) are shown; the intermediate steps 2-8 are not listed here.
  • Consultant recall hourly additions apply to Consultants on Steps 1-4 and are shown at their published 14 April 2025 rate; the other allowances are at the 14 April 2026 rate.
  • The agreement also provides 11.5% employer superannuation, five weeks of annual leave with 17.5% leave loading, five days of study leave and 12 days of sick leave per year.
  • Continuous duty is capped at 16 hours, after which an 8-hour break is required; SA Health fatigue-management provisions apply.
