Penalty Rates
Shift workers not in receipt of a Rolled-in Rate allowance, for night shifts between 7:00pm and 7:00am, calculated on the ordinary hourly rate. Applies in lieu of the early morning penalty, so it is the operative loading for shifts in the 7pm-7am window.
Shift workers not in receipt of a Rolled-in Rate allowance, for work between midnight and 6:30am, in lieu of the parent Award's 15% night shift penalty. Superseded by the 20.5% night shift penalty where the shift qualifies as a night shift.
An afternoon shift commences at or after 10:00am and finishes at or after 7:00pm and on or before 1:00am. The loading percentage is not restated in this agreement — the parent SA Ambulance Service Award's rate (Award cl 17.10.1) applies.
Double time for all hours worked in excess of the rostered shift length. Not payable on complete additional shifts.
Time-and-a-half where a crib break is taken outside the crib-break window set for the shift length (8-14 hour shifts).
Casual employees receive a 25% loading on the ordinary hourly rate. Casuals working a public holiday receive both the casual loading and the public-holiday penalty; the minimum engagement is 3 hours or the remaining shift duration, whichever is greater.
Casual Patient Transport Service employees working weekends are paid the parent Award's 50% penalty rate (Award cl 17.10.2) for the rostered shift length.
Increases the parent Award's country on-call rate (Award cl 18.5.3, otherwise 50%) to 100% for country employees. General rank-and-file on-call rates themselves are set by the parent SA Ambulance Service Award, not this agreement.
Employees receiving the Rolled-in-Rate allowance are paid the parent Award's penalty rates (Award cl 17.10 and 26.2) for work on an Additional or Substitute Day, a part-day public holiday and Easter Sunday. This agreement sets no general Saturday, Sunday or public-holiday loading for other employees — that treatment sits in the parent Award.

The agreement was approved by the South Australian Employment Tribunal on 16 February 2026 and has a nominal expiry of 31 December 2028.
- •Salaries rise 3.5% from 31 December 2025, 3.5% from 31 December 2026, 3.5% from 31 December 2027 and 3.0% from 31 December 2028. The 1 July 2026, 2027 and 2028 dates are structural pay-point changes under clause 16.1 — new or realigned pay points (for example the Student Ambulance Officer rates and Paramedic pay points 2.7 and 2.8) take effect on those dates rather than an across-the-board increase.
- •Pay points that only show rates from a later date are introduced by the clause 16.1 restructure on that date; pay points that only show a 31 December 2025 rate are retired by the restructure from 1 July 2026. Rates payable before 31 December 2025 were set by the superseded SA Ambulance Service Enterprise Agreement 2022 and are not shown here.
- •The agreement does not restate weekly ordinary hours (rostering and ordinary-hours arrangements sit in the parent SA Ambulance Service Award); 38 hours per week is used here for hourly conversions.
- •Casual employees are paid on the ordinary hourly rate plus a 25% casual loading, with a minimum engagement of three hours (shown under Penalties).
- •This agreement operates alongside the parent SA Ambulance Service Award: Saturday, Sunday and public-holiday loadings for ordinary hours, general on-call rates, the afternoon-shift percentage and the footwear allowance dollar amount are set by that Award rather than restated in this agreement.
- •Regional Team Leaders, Middle Managers and Operations Managers receive rolled-in percentage allowances (shown under Allowances) in lieu of on-call, recall, overtime and other penalties for work outside ordinary hours.
- •Shift workers other than casuals receive an additional sixth week of annual leave; the agreement provides no separate annual leave loading.
