Australian Capital Territory Paramedic Wages

Added on top of ordinary pay for ordinary duty on a shift where any part falls between 6:00 pm and 6:30 am. Not paid on top of the rostered salary loadings for paramedics (cl N3.1, N25.1), patient transport officers on the NEPT roster (cl O8.1) or Ambulance Support Officers (cl P10.1, P10.4), which are paid in lieu of shift penalties. Part-time staff get shift penalties averaged over their roster (cl O8.3, P10.3).

Replaces the 15% Shift Work Penalty (not additive) when working ordinary hours continuously for more than 4 weeks on shifts falling wholly between 6:00 pm and 8:00 am.

Added on top of ordinary pay for all rostered ordinary duty between midnight Friday and midnight Saturday.

Added on top of ordinary pay for all rostered ordinary duty between midnight Saturday and midnight Sunday.

Added on top of ordinary pay for all rostered ordinary duty performed on a public holiday. Not paid to Ambulance Support Officers (cl P18.1). For patient transport officers on the NEPT roster, public holiday penalties are included in the shift allowance (cl O16.4). Full-time paramedics on a roster that includes public holidays also accrue an extra 76 hours of annual leave a year (cl N28.1).

Time and a half for the first 2 hours, then double time. Paramedic overtime is paid on base pay, not the rostered salary (cl N34.1). Ambulance Managers follow the general overtime rules instead (cl C9.12). Non-continuous overtime callouts attract a 4-hour minimum payment, still paid if cancelled within 1 hour of the scheduled start.

Double time for all overtime hours on a Saturday. Paramedic overtime is paid on base pay, not the rostered salary (cl N34.1).

Double time for all overtime worked on a Sunday.

Double time and a half for all overtime worked on a public holiday. An 8-hour rest break (plus reasonable travel time) applies between ceasing overtime and the next ordinary duty; if recalled earlier, the intervening time is paid at double time.

Per hour of on-call while required to remain contactable and available for recall outside ordinary hours.

Per hour of on-call on a Saturday or Sunday.

Per hour of on-call on a public holiday or accrued day off. A recall to duty from on-call attracts a separate 3-hour minimum payment (1 hour for close-call recalls).

Paramedics and intensive care paramedics on the 44-hour roster are paid their base salary plus this loading, in lieu of shift penalties.

Paramedics and intensive care paramedics on the 10/14 roster (two 10-hour day shifts and two 14-hour night shifts) are paid their base salary plus this loading, made up of a 26.65% shift-penalty part and a 7.13% rostered-overtime part. Overtime beyond the roster is still paid at overtime rates.

Student paramedics and graduate interns on the 10/14 roster are paid their base salary plus a 21.675% penalties part and a 5.788% overtime part.

Patient transport officers on the NEPT roster are paid their base salary plus 23.66% for shift penalties, 0.51% for overtime built into the roster and 1.01% in lieu of the Christmas shutdown.

Ambulance Support Officer call takers are paid their base salary plus this loading, in lieu of shift penalties.

Ambulance Support Officer dispatchers and coordinators are paid their base salary plus 34.42% for shift penalties and 7.01% for overtime built into the roster.

Casual employees are paid a 25% loading on the ordinary hourly rate, with a 3-hour minimum engagement per occasion. Casuals receive shift penalties and overtime on the same basis as permanent staff.

The greater of 17.5% of the ordinary hourly rate on 1 January multiplied by the annual leave hours accrued in the preceding calendar year (excluding shift penalties, capped at the ABS male average weekly total earnings figure), or the shift penalties the employee would have received had they not been on leave.
