Jump to a step
Step 1: Open Settings.
Tap Settings at the bottom right of the screen.
Step 2: Find Tax Estimate.
Scroll down to Pay & Finance and tap Tax Estimate.
Step 3: Turn it on.
Turn on Show After-Tax Estimates. Your tax details appear below it.
Step 4: Tax-free threshold.
Claiming Tax-Free Threshold is on already. Leave it on for your main job. Turn it off only if this is a second job.
Step 5: HECS or HELP debt.
If you have a HECS or HELP debt, turn on I Have a HECS/HELP Debt.
Step 6: Say when it started.
MyRoster asks when the change started. Pay days from that date include your HECS/HELP repayments, and earlier pays stay as they were. Pick the date, then tap Confirm. In this example, we kept today's date.
Step 7: Medicare levy.
Include Medicare Levy (2%) is on already, just like your payslip. Turn it off only if you have a Medicare exemption.
Step 8: Estimates only.
These are estimates, so your payslip may differ a little. Tap the small i next to any option to learn more about it.
Step 9: Go back.
Tap the back button at the top left. Tax Estimate now shows On. Other deductions, like union fees, go in Pre & Post-Tax Deductions.
Step 10: Back to your roster.
If the tabs at the bottom have shrunk to one round button, tap it to show them again. Then tap Roster.
Step 11: Tap your pay day.
Your pay day has a money bag on it. Tap it.
Step 12: See the details.
The total in the box is your pay before tax. Swipe the box up to see the Pay Day Summary.
Step 13: Open Tax Deductions.
Tap Tax Deductions to open it.
Step 14: See the tax.
You'll see the tax taken out: PAYG withholding, the Medicare levy and your HECS/HELP repayment.
Step 15: Your take-home pay.
Your take-home pay is the Estimated Net Pay.
Step 16: Open Stats.
Tap the X to close the box, then tap Stats at the bottom.
Step 17: Tax in Stats.
Scroll down to the Tax Estimate card. Stats shows your tax for each pay cycle, too.
Good to know
- Set your pay day first (Settings › Pay & Finance › Pay Day). Tax is worked out for each pay, so it only shows on pay days.
- Your tax settings cover all your jobs. In Multi-Job Mode, the estimate uses your combined income.
- Once Tax Estimate is on, your pay-day notification includes your estimated take-home pay.
- Turned on HECS/HELP by mistake? Tap Cancel on the date screen and nothing changes. Paid off your debt? Turn it off and pick the date the repayments stopped.
- Union fees and other deductions, before or after tax, go in Pre & Post-Tax Deductions. Salary Packaging changes your take-home pay only when Tax Estimate is on.
- Self-employed NDIS support workers see Tax to Set Aside instead of tax withheld.
- In the UK, it's UK Tax Estimate, with Personal Allowance, Student Loan Plan and Postgraduate Loan. In New Zealand, it's NZ Tax Estimate, with Student Loan and KiwiSaver (and its rate). PAYE and ACC are always included.
